Why it fits tonight: Refrigerated tortellini cooks directly in the sauce, spinach needs no chopping, and the creamy tomato base stays familiar enough for a low-drama pasta night.

Why It Works Tonight

The skillet method removes the slowest part of many fast pasta recipes: waiting for a large pot of water to boil. Refrigerated tortellini cooks quickly in diluted marinara, then cream cheese and mozzarella finish the sauce without another pan.

15-Minute Creamy Tomato Tortellini Recipe

Serves: 4  ·  Prep: 3 minutes  ·  Cook: 12 minutes

5 Main Ingredients

  • 20 ounces refrigerated cheese tortellini
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Pantry basics: 1 cup water, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and black pepper to taste.

Instructions

  1. Start the skillet. Add the marinara, 1 cup water, and garlic powder to a large deep skillet. Bring to a lively simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook the tortellini. Stir in the refrigerated tortellini, cover, reduce the heat to medium, and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the pasta is tender. Follow the package’s doneness guidance if your brand cooks faster.
  3. Make it creamy. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the cream cheese until mostly melted and smooth.
  4. Add the spinach. Fold in the baby spinach and cook for about 1 minute until wilted. If the sauce is thicker than you like, add a splash of water.
  5. Finish with mozzarella. Sprinkle mozzarella over the top, cover for 1 minute until melted, then add black pepper if wanted and serve.

Picky-Eater Move

Use a smooth mild marinara and chop the spinach smaller with kitchen scissors, or leave it out of selected portions before it wilts into the sauce.

Make It Cheaper

Buy refrigerated tortellini when it is on sale and use store-brand marinara and cream cheese. Frozen chopped spinach can replace fresh if well drained.

Lowest-Effort Shortcut

Everything goes into one skillet and the spinach needs no chopping. Pre-shredded mozzarella keeps the finish nearly automatic.

Use What You Have

Ravioli can work in place of tortellini if its package cook time is similar. Add extra water in small splashes if the pasta needs longer.

Leftovers Tomorrow

Refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of water or marinara because the pasta will continue absorbing sauce as it sits.
