Why it fits tonight: The chicken is cut small so it cooks quickly, broccoli shares the same skillet, and the sauce stays sweet-savory and mild enough to serve without a second dinner.

Why It Works Tonight

Small chicken pieces cook in minutes, the broccoli needs no separate pot, and the mild pantry sauce keeps a fresh-chicken dinner practical even on a tight weeknight.

20-Minute Honey Garlic Chicken & Broccoli Recipe

Serves: 4  ·  Prep: 10 minutes  ·  Cook: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1¼ pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups small broccoli florets
  • ⅓ cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce. Stir together the broth, honey, soy sauce, and garlic in a small cup. Keep the cornstarch mixture separate.
  2. Cook the chicken. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in one layer and cook for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and nearly cooked through.
  3. Add the broccoli. Add the broccoli and 2 tablespoons of water. Cover for 2 minutes, then uncover and stir until the broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender.
  4. Glaze the skillet. Pour in the honey-garlic sauce. Bring to a simmer, stir in the cornstarch mixture, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until glossy and thickened.
  5. Check and serve. Make sure the thickest chicken pieces reach 165°F (74°C), then remove from the heat and serve.

Picky-Eater Move

Cook a few chicken pieces and broccoli florets without sauce, then glaze the rest of the skillet.

Make It Cheaper

Use chicken thighs when they cost less, or stretch the meal with rice you already have.

Lowest-Effort Shortcut

Use pre-cut broccoli florets and thin chicken cutlets so the chopping is almost gone.

Use What You Have

Frozen broccoli works too. Thaw it briefly first so excess water does not dilute the sauce.

Leftovers Tomorrow

Refrigerate in a covered container for up to 3 days. Reheat until steaming hot and serve over rice, tuck into a wrap, or chop the chicken smaller for a quick lunch bowl.
